Artist's Career

In her artistic work, Lavonne Bosman needs to fully immerse herself into her surroundings in order to observe and then wait for the right light and moment, when all elements come into balance. Her work focuses on portraits of people in marginalized positions and nature scenes. Technically, she uses wide apertures and slightly overexposed images to create more contrast.

Born in 1977 – Lives in Cape Town, South Africa

Artistic education

  • 1992 – 1994 Studies of Art History at High school, influenced by Impressionist style
  • 1997 – 1999 Studies of Drama and theatre at University of Stellenbosch, discovery of photography
  • 2000 Photography course focusing on B&W film, darkroom processing and printing, Cape Town

 

Artistic work

  • 2007-2008 Project “Ilungile, it is good”, documenting the amaXhosa people living in township shacks outside Cape Town, Western Cape.  Exhibition at the Artscape theatre, Cape Town, 2009
  • 2011 – 2013 Project “Madiba’s People” about the amaXhosa people in their rural homelands, the Eastern Cape, Transkei.  Exhibition in 2013, “Makhelwane, my neighbour” with the Associazione Piemontesi in Cape Town
  • Since 2014 Artistic exploration with close-ups of nature, some human landscapes and a closer look at intimate outdoor festivals
