ChinaArtist and SMArt
In her artistic work, Lanqing Zhu likes to observe first, then to shot photos in a documentary way and finally to combine them with different materials, such as old photos or documents. She thus tries to find a clue that can link different visual materials with her photos to create a coherent collage. Eventually, within this type of artwork, she tends to reconstruct the appearance of a story or a place in a period of time. Her work A Journey in Reverse Direction – a handmade photo book of her hometown the Dongshan Island – is a good example of this artistic process.
